Guest requests

Guests at a table call a waiter or ask for the bill from the menu; your staff get it on their phone with the table number. Pro plan.

Guest requests

On the Pro plan, a guest who scanned the QR code on their table sees a bell button at the top of the menu, next to the language. They tap it, choose Call a waiter or Bring the bill, and your staff get "Table 14 — Bring the bill" on the Requests screen and as a phone notification. Staff tap Done when it's handled.

Set it up (owner)

  1. Mark your table codes. In QR Code, tap the pencil on each code that sits on a table, put the table number in Placement (Table 14), and turn on Table code — guests can call staff. Codes on the window, flyers or takeaway bags stay off, so nobody outside can call a waiter. You don't need to reprint anything.
  2. Choose what guests can ask for. Open Requests → Settings and tick the requests you offer.
  3. Set the time limit. How long after scanning a guest may still send a request: 3 hours by default. After that the button disappears and requests are ignored, so someone who scanned at lunch can't call your staff from home that evening.
  4. Choose who receives them. Tick the team members who should get requests: you, a manager, your waiters. Save.

Give your waiters access

Invite them from Team in the advanced interface with the role Staff (guest requests & table orders). Staff can sign in, but only see the Requests screen, the Orders screen and their account: they can't change the menu. Remember to tick them as recipients in Requests → Settings.

Using the Requests screen (staff)

  • Open Requests. New requests appear on their own: immediately on a device with phone notifications on, otherwise within about 30 seconds.
  • Tap Turn on sound once: phones only allow sound after a tap. The screen then chimes and vibrates for each new request.
  • Tap Turn on phone notifications to be alerted even when the screen is off or another app is open.
  • Tap Done when you've handled a request. Recently handled ones stay listed below with who handled them. A request nobody marks done disappears after an hour.
  • Open menu shows the live guest menu, so you can look up a dish or an allergen without a separate copy.
iPhone: Apple only delivers notifications to web apps on the home screen. In Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen, open Azcarte from the new icon, then tap Turn on phone notifications. Android phones work straight from the browser.

What guests see

The bell only appears for a guest who scanned a table code recently, within your time limit. After sending, they see Sent — staff have been notified. If the scan is too old, the menu asks them to scan the code on their table again. After sending, that button rests for 3 minutes with a countdown, so a guest tapping again and again can't keep alerting your staff (even after you tapped Done). Other requests stay available: a table that called the waiter can still ask for the bill. The buttons are in the guest's own menu language, always with an icon.

A guest who moves to another table just scans the new table's code: the latest scan wins.

While the scan is valid, the table stays in the menu's web address. That's what keeps the buttons working when a guest taps Open in Safari after scanning with the iPhone's Code Scanner. It also means a link a guest shares within your time limit points at their table.

Numbers

In the advanced interface, Analytics shows requests per day by type, the average time until staff tap Done, requests never marked done, and how many taps your time limit refused.

Turning it off

Open Account → Advanced interface → My Venue → Edit, and under Guest features turn off Guest request buttons. The buttons disappear from the menu and your staff no longer see the Requests tab. It's on by default.
